5 Great Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring! Springtime is upon us, and some would say it can be, “A fresh start!” To set you up for success, here are a few helpful recommendations to get this new season started off right!

Get your air conditioning unit ready!

Summer is just around the corner, and with that, so is the heat! Maintaining your AC unit now can prevent any unforeseen issues later when the heat strikes! It is recommended that you change or wash the filters monthly; however, right now is a great time to clean the coils and cleanse the condenser outside. Now is also an ideal time to trim away any shrubs in the way of your unit and making sure its drain line is not clogged. While you're there, you might as well change the furnace filter, so you’re set for the cooler weather once the fall season comes.

Declutter!

I think it’s fair to say many of us have way more than we need or even want! This is the perfect time to clean out your closets and cabinets. This includes the stuff in the garage you’ve been saving for later! You might even consider donating some of things you no longer need to a local shelter or Salvation Army. This way you’re helping others as you help yourself!

Checking your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors!

This is crucial and can save lives! It is recommended that you have at least one of each device on every level of your home in working order. Therefore, check those batteries and replace them if needed.

Mosquito prevention!

It’s that time of year again when those pesky little bugs return! As annoying as the itch of their bites can be, the viruses they can carry are even worse! One way to protect your family is by walking around your home once a week, emptying and scrubbing anything that holds water. This includes flowerpot saucers, trashcans, birdbaths, etc. Are you looking for some natural repellents? You may want to consider planting a garden of plants that naturally keep those little bugs away, such as Basil, Lavender, Lemongrass, and Mint, to name a few!

Get your carpets cleaned!

With the weather warming up, it’s time to get the flip flops out! Unfortunately, wearing your shoes inside the house can track in dirt, pollen, and germs. Depending on your lifestyle, getting your carpets professionally deep-cleaned every 6-12 months is recommended. Routinely cleaning your carpet will significantly help the allergy sufferers in your home too!
