Labor Day Weekend in Long Beach & Lakewood

Labor Day weekend is one of the last chances to lean into summer before September gets busy. Around Long Beach and Lakewood, the weekend of September 5–7 brings live music, food, waterfront activities, and a few easy ways to keep things local.

Long Beach

Long Beach Greek festival: Spend part of the weekend at the annual Greek Festival at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. Running September 5–7, the festival brings together Greek food, traditional music and dancing, cultural exhibits, and a kids zone. Admission is $5, and children under 12 are free. One More Summer Concert: Start the long weekend early at El Dorado Park West on Friday, September 4. Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine is closing its summer concert season with a free performance by RemiX, playing funk, R&B and new jack swing. Long Beach Comic Con: Comic Con returns to the Long Beach Convention Center September 5–6 with artists, panels, workshops, celebrity guests, and plenty for pop-culture fans to explore.

Lakewood

Lakewood keeps Labor Day weekend a little more relaxed.

Last Swims of Summer: Both Mayfair Pool and McCormick Pool will be open September 5–7 for Labor Day weekend recreation swim. Sessions run from 1–2:30 p.m. and 2:45–4:15 p.m. Mayfair Pool also continues weekend recreation swimming through September 26. See Lakewood’s updated pool hours and fees.

PlayLA Ice Hockey Tournament: The Labor Day weekend tournament runs September 4–6 at The Rinks – Lakewood ICE. The event is hosted by The Empowerment Effect, with 10% of net proceeds benefiting a local member of the hockey community affected by cancer.

If you prefer something simple, a morning at a Lakewood park followed by an afternoon swim makes for an easy holiday plan without having to head far from home.

Labor Day weekend works a little differently in these neighboring cities. Long Beach has the festivals, music, and waterfront crowds, while Lakewood offers a quieter way to stretch out the final days of summer.
